SIX Little known Secrets to ENSURE you are ON-TIME for your WEDDING!

Working out the timings of a wedding day can be a difficult task, which is why so many makeup artists and hair stylists just turn up at the very beginning of the day and hope for the best.

I organised 70 weddings in 2017, so I know a thing or two about organising wedding mornings and what can happen so we like to arrange them to military precision.

During the weddings my team and I direct - We always get comments off guests and wedding photographers as to how it is always so calm compared to that of a different weddings they had attended (that were not organised by me).

I often hear tails of how the Bride was really rushed at the end or that the artist didn’t give the bride enough time because of a bridesmaid taking up too much time or that the car was waiting for an extra 20 mins because they were running late, this happens so often and yet all of this can be avoided.

Here are my top Wedding Morning Tips!

TIMINGS WORK BACKWARDS!

It is time to work backwards! Starting with what time you are getting married.

1. THE WEDDING VENUE.....

If you need to travel to your wedding venue you can bet it’s going to take time to get there.
How are you traveling to the venue?
By Car, By Horse and Cart, Perhaps even by tractor yes this is a thing.

All of the above will take longer to get to the venue than anticipated so we normally double the length of time it takes for a normal journey this you could find out by AA AutoRoute and if the journey takes 10mins, you double it and so on.

2. NOW THE DRESS!.....

Brides always think it takes less time to get into their dress than it normally does.
This is because your experience at the dress shop was quick, but guess what – the dress ladies dress people everyday; it is their job so they are going to make it look very easy.

This is rarely the case on a Wedding morning and a corset dress can sometimes take an hour to put on. Don’t forget your bridesmaids will have to get ready too!

My rule of thumb – If it takes the dress shop assistant 20 mins to get you into your Wedding Dress – I would allow 40 mins on the Wedding Day.

3. THE DRESS! Part 2.....

Are you stepping into your dress or is your dress going over your head?

Why – well if you have just had your hair and makeup done, you really don’t want it to be smudged or your hairstyle wrecked because you’ve forgotten to check.

Several years ago I had a beautiful bride who wanted a really elaborate hair-style and full on makeup and lashes and at the last minute told me she had to put her huge dress on over her head.

The hair and makeup had taken us about 3 hours to do so I didn’t want a humongous mother of all dresses beautiful as it was ruining all of our good work, besides we didn’t have the time for it to be wrecked the cars were outside already, so I actually got into the dress with her (yes it really was that big) and directed the dress over her head and tactfully teased it over so that her hair and makeup stayed in tact.

That’s what I call going over and above the call of duty but it was also completely necessary, so my advice is to tell your artist which way your going to go into to it!

4. ASK PARTICULAR BRIDESMAIDS TO HAVE A TRIAL.....

Your makeup artist or hairstylist should let you know how they will deal with someone that takes longer than expected...
Ok, so its not uncommon for you to get a Bridesmaid who is very particular with her makeup and is now starting to eat up time on a wedding day. I would advise

that you have any body that is particular with makeup and hair to definitely have a trial, that way the Artist will know the time to allow for them.

5. GET EVERYBODY HAVING HAIR AND MAKEUP WITH YOU AT THE START OF THE WEDDING MORNING.

Being late to a wedding is not just down to makeup artists or hair stylists, people can be running late too, its not uncommon for a bridesmaid or other party member to turn up late etc., so I always recommend the bride has everyone there at the beginning of your start time.

6. DO NOT GO LAST

Even with the best will in the world and following everything above, you could still run into a hitch (pardon the pun), so the last person you want to be rushed is YOU! So if you aim to go second to last, and I would personally make that hair (so your makeup has had time to set properly), that way, if anyone has to be rushed it won’t be you.

SHOUT ABOUT YOUR USP

Everyone is different! There isn’t just one way!

No matter what you supply to the Wedding Industry, you need to know what your USP is and if you don't have one, then you need to make one!  If you don't have a USP, what makes you stand out from the stand across the room at the Wedding Fayre!

You may be very versatile but prefer one way to another, either way stick to what you like doing.

I often look at other artists makeup looks on insta and think -  wow I wish I could do that, and to be honest IF I really wanted to do my makeups heavy like that I probably would, but that’s just not me or my style and I am really not drawn to doing it heavy so I stick to what I like doing and you should too.

If you stay true to yourself you will likely draw people to you who are similar to you, which is why I always attract the more natural bride, the bride who doesn't wear too much makeup on a regular basis.

If you are into makeup looks in more heavily made up way,  I would definatley recomend that having toned down looks should be in your portfolio because many brides do want to look like themselves but enhanced rather than completely transformed.

Here is a bride I did a few years ago using Airbrush Airbase Makeup.

Here is a link to the makeup I used on this bride. See more images of Amy at my website www.divinemakeup.co.uk

Emma x

PART TIME MAKEUP ARTIST. FULL TIME MUM!

My MISSION is to teach ANYONE already in or looking at getting in-to the WEDDING INDUSTRY all I know about selling THEIR services or products to BRIDES.

It may help if I start with the beginning of my journey into the Weddings.

So 10 years ago I was a successful Business Executive on a really great wage and I have driven all over the country advising companies on Employment Law & Health and Safety.

But in 2009, I had a really bad year.

At the end of March 2009, I lost my job and was devastated, I went from earning an amazing carefree wage to zero, and my confidence was shattered.

Then I had a unexpected surprise I was pregnant, shit, no job and pregnant, that wasn’t what I had ordered, but here it was anyway.

A few weeks later, my 92 year old Nana died, which was heartbreaking and then 5 months later I had a still birth – her name was Lea-Kate, after my nan.

Needless to say this was not a good time.

Fast-forward 8 months and I was pregnant again with Sam who is my little angel,

And I was still out of work and pregnant again.

This was not an easy time either – once I had been a confident carefree individual, with everything going for me, now I was without a job for over a year, pregnant twice, still grieving over the loss of Lea-Kate.  I was too scared to go out the house or do anything just in case it  “happened again”  it was torture,  all I thought I was good for was sitting watching the birds, in complete depression.

My anxiety was through the roof, I was selling everything I owned just for a bit of cash.

Then my darling Sam was born, but that wasn’t without its problems, he was rushed in to intensive care, had lumber puncture, he had jaundice and I was frantic and very scared.

I started expressing as directed and I asked the midwife for some cream as my nipples were sore she gave me one sashetet and I ask for more, I insisted that I would express every last drop of what I had to give, so that he had the best from me. But the midwife told me , everyone ‘says’ they do that she said, but no one ever does, they are always too tired and this cream is too expensive to waste.

But I thought well I will show her, from a depressed, frightened person I suddenly became the most determined mum on the planet at that moment, I expressed milk every waking moment, to the extent that the same midwife exclaimed loudly, Well I have never seen anything like it, you did mean it when you said you would express everything you had so she promptly gave me the whole damn box of arnica cream (which is sore nipple cream).

Sam came home and we were delighted, nervous, but so happy he had came through it.   But something was niggling me.

I was out of work.  I had had very little money still and I was not happy!

I decided there and then I was going to start my own business, I was going to work for myself, for the freedom it would give me, to work around Sam’s needs and I was going to earn decent money while I did it too.

It needed to be something I could do on the weekends, or when mike was off, and it needed to be a good earner too.  I had worked at bars and things in the past, but at I think about £5 an hour back then, it seemed an awful lot of work for not much money.

A friend of mine suggested that I go to have my hair and makeup done with her to go to the races and then it struck me.   I could do the same, all I would need to do is go on a course.

Learn how to do it professionally, get the insurance and then advertise and market myself for Bridal Hair and Makeup.

But I was met with all kinds of opposition, my family, friends all told me that It was a bad idea, maybe they were being kind just to try and protect me, having seen what I had been through, but just like the midwife, people telling me no, was just what I needed to think, well I will show you that I can do it! So I did and nothing could stop me.

Doing wedding makeup didn't get me out of my depression, however, it did make me get out of the house and doing things normally again!   Which if you suffer with problems of anxiety and depression, doing something that is really important so that you can't let Brides down really helps you  focus!

So that is what I did and Divine is now over 5 years old . www.divinemakeup.co.uk

I had made the decision to do Makeup & Hair for Weddings, because it is mainly weekend work, great when you have a child and can work it around your other commitments, and that it paid well!  I had many jobs in the past where I would work in bars earning a little extra cash, but its long hours for not much pay so this way suited me much better!

I get my most of my business from Wedding Fayres and I wasn't always very good at them, but last year Divine makeup did 70 Weddings and most of the leads came from two Wedding Fayres.

But many people are scared to do Wedding Fayres and those that do them these are the four main things I hear back from people.

1:  "I only expect to get one or two clients from a Wedding Fayre and Im grateful as it covers the cost of them"
2:  They don’t know how to approach people.
3:  They are scared of rejection.
4: They don't get many people following up from the Fayre.

These are all common thoughts and I too have had them.   However, my background is sales and marketing and over the years I have made it my mission to obtain as MANY of the LEADS I can from just ONE Wedding Fayre and CONVERT as many of the leads into PAYING clients.

So I now have a barrage of tools up my sleeve to get over all of these issues and that’s what brings me here to you today!

So I have set up a new business designed to train people everything I know, so you can make real money in the Wedding Industry with the hours of your choice!
