Tips for Bridal Makeup Artists
Helping your client attain great skin should be on your
mind, so have advice in your pocket if she needs any help.
Skin Types
There are lots of different skin combinations, and if you’ve
not been on a course you probably won’t be prepared for these.
If you have attended a course, then you should know skin types,
as these will be the groundwork of your makeup base.
You will get to know skin types more as you
progress during your career but here are a few of my basic tips.
You really need to know these before you do a Wedding Makuep!
Dry Skin, & Combination
First determine how dry is your clients skin?
Do you need to apply a
moisturiser to their skin just prior to makeup application or do you need to recommend that they do their own moisturising on the morning of the wedding day?
Tip:
Your moisturiser may not suit their skin.
Their moisturiser may not suit your makeup.
Always do a Trial!
Oily Skin
Oily Skin can be even more tricky, if they have very oily skin,
they will know about it and tell you about it too! They will probably be all
too aware that they find it hard to keep their make up from sliding off.
I like Natural Bamboo Charcoal Oil Absorbing Tissues which are a lot cheaper than the ones you get from MAC.
Now having my own salon I invested a CACI ULTRA machine
which helps to restore the PH balance in the skin which can in some cases completely rid the bride or client of oily skin. It can certainly kill off bacterial spots too, which is fantastic if a Bride suffers with acne or oily skin. It is also amazing at firming and toning the skin too, suitable for everyone in the bridal party but particuarly mother of the brides who want to look their best on the wedding day!
You could invest in a CACI machine the latest one is a Synergy to help them out or they could
use a product.
Your client may not have the funds to do a CACI course but she still will want flawless beautiful skin,
so I always recommend a product by Tropic Skincare which is a 100% natural skin care range. The ABC collection is fantastic for Oily skin but they would need to start their new routine at least four months in advance of the wedding, so that their skin expells any purities from the old skin care and starts to rebuild a better defense for the new one.
If you have sorted their oily issue out for them with whichever means then they will love you forever! However, if your client still has oily skin come the wedding day then I would always advise your client, that, with the best will in the world they may still have to top up
their makeup or even redo it later on in the evening, this is important so it makes them aware and also covers
you so they don’t think that is your makeup and that they know its their skin thats the issue.
Sensitive Skin
Your client will generaly know if they have sensitive skin and if they do it is always wise to try and get them to have a skin test
prior to the trial, this way you know as far as possible that they won’t have a
reaction with the makeup you use.
I always recommend Tropic for someone who doesn't really have a skin routine as it is gentle and natural. I'm really not a fan an putting anything chemical onto my skin and i'll write about why in another post but this is why I will harp on about Tropic products simply being the best all rounder for skin care.
Mature Skin
What is classed as mature skin. Free radicals and the sun will age skin at all ages, its inevietable to some degree that this will happen. If free radicals didn't exist our bodies would still grow up and be bigger but our skin would stay the same as when we where born. Take for example an apple, the apple doesn't go off straight away, what happens is that the free radicals in the air react with the nice fleshy part of the apple and make it brown.
If the apple was uncut, this would happen but slower as the apple is protected by its protective skin.
So this is what happens to our skin over time the free radicals break it down and we can develop wrinkles and brown spots and our skin elasicity can start to drop and wear.
Protecting our skin is the best way to prevent this happening, so I would always recommend my favourite product Night Repair, yes it is from Tropic too, but I defy anyone not to try it, because its like age reverse in a bottle.
On this note: you have to do makeup a lot
differently on mature skin than if you are applying to younger more smooth skin. On this note I would recommend avoiding lines where possible, and less is more!
